Citizenship / Naturalization
There are several routes to naturalization and U.S. citizenship. In most cases, it is necessary to obtain
permanent residence (green card) for several years to be eligible for naturalization. Also, a child born
outside the United States may already have U.S. citizenship if at least one parent is a U.S. citizen. U.S.
citizens have certain rights that permanent residents do not, such as being able to vote in elections and
sponsor certain relatives for immigration.
